Hypnosis for trauma and emotions.

Something that happened long ago still affects you. Or you keep running into the same pattern without knowing why. With hypnotherapy you work on what lies underneath, at your own pace and with care. You stay in control the whole time, and we never go further than you want.

“I know it's over, but my body doesn't seem to know that yet.”

Trauma often shows up in patterns that hold you back in life. You startle more easily than others, you find it hard to trust people, you say yes when you mean no, or you pull back as soon as something feels risky. From the outside it sometimes makes no sense. On the inside it's a response that once made perfect sense, and still gets triggered.
Maybe you know exactly where it comes from. Maybe you don't. It can be one big event, or lots of small things that piled up over the years. You don't have to figure it out on your own first. We'll explore that together.

Why understanding alone isn't enough.

Many people who come to me have already done a lot of thinking and talking. They understand where their pattern comes from. And yet it keeps happening. That's not your fault. Emotional responses are stored in the part of you that works automatically, and that part doesn't listen to arguments.
Everything you do involves your nervous system. An old experience can keep your body in alarm mode, even when there's no danger now. In hypnosis you reach the part that drives those responses. That's where something can start to shift that stayed stuck when you only talked about it.

What I can help you with.

Emotional struggles look different for everyone. These are some of the topics I work with.

Processing trauma

An accident, a loss, violence, a life-changing event in your childhood or a period when you felt unsafe. Sometimes it was long ago and still feels close. In our sessions we work on the emotional charge attached to the memory. You decide how close we get and how fast we go.

Grief and loss

Losing someone you love, but also a relationship, your health or a future you had pictured. Grief isn't a problem that needs solving. Sometimes, though, it gets stuck and keeps dominating your life. Then hypnotherapy can help make room again, alongside the loss.

Insecurity and low self-confidence

That voice in your head telling you that you can't do it, that you're not good enough or that others know better. Often you learned that voice somewhere along the way. In hypnosis we explore where it comes from, and you build on what you've had in you all along.

Old emotional blocks

You can feel something is there, but you can't reach it. You never cry, or you cry very easily. You get angry over little things, or you feel almost nothing. Emotions that never had a place can get stuck like this. We work on letting them move again, without you drowning in them.

Patterns that keep coming back

The same kind of relationship, again and again. Pushing past your limits, again and again. Backing out whenever something matters. You see it happening and still you can't respond differently. A pattern like that once served a purpose. In hypnosis we explore which one, and you learn a response that fits you better now.

You stay in control.

Working on trauma requires safety. That's why we never go faster than you can handle. You don't have to share anything you don't want to share, and together we look at how close you let something come. You're fully aware the whole time, you hear everything and you can stop or take a break at any moment.
Every person already has many inner resources: strength, resilience, moments when you did feel safe. They're often unconscious and not easy to access, especially if you've been in survival mode for a long time. In hypnosis I help you find those resources again. From there you can look at the hard things with support, instead of alone.

Grounded in connection, not a protocol.

I work with Ericksonian, conversational hypnotherapy. There's no fixed script I use with everyone. I work from our connection: I listen, sense what you need and attune to that again in every session. I've learned a range of techniques and use them with purpose, but only when they fit you and the moment. With trauma that matters, because what helps one time can be too much the next.

How trauma lives on in patterns.

The word trauma sounds big. But it doesn't have to be about one shocking event. A childhood where you didn't feel seen, a relationship where you were always walking on eggshells or a loss that never had room can also run deep. What they have in common: your system once learned it had to stay on guard. Back then that lesson may have been necessary. Now it mostly gets in your way.
Trauma often shows up in certain patterns that hold you back in life. Think of people-pleasing to avoid conflict, wanting to do everything yourself because you don't trust anyone, or freezing as soon as someone raises their voice. They're clever solutions from a younger part of you. In hypnosis you connect with that part. Not to push it away, but to let it know that things can be different now.
Grief is different. Sadness over someone you miss is part of love and doesn't need to go away. Sometimes, though, grief gets stuck: you stay caught in guilt, in anger or in an emptiness where nothing moves. Or a new loss touches an old loss that never had a place. Then hypnotherapy can help give the loss a place, so that alongside the sadness there's room for your own life again.
Insecurity and low self-confidence often have the same roots. What you heard or felt about yourself as a child becomes a belief you no longer question. That's just how I am, you think. But a belief is learned, and what's learned can change. In hypnosis you explore where that belief began, and you experience what's inside you when that critical voice goes quiet for a while.

With care, and within limits.

I'm not a psychologist and not a doctor. Hypnotherapy is a complement, never a replacement for psychological or medical help. Already seeing someone, a therapist for example? Then let them know you'd like to start hypnotherapy. I don't offer EMDR. If that's specifically what you're looking for, someone else will be a better fit.
Before we start, I'll send you a short questionnaire, which includes questions about medication. If there's more going on medically or psychologically, I'll ask for a referral letter from your doctor. Are you in acute distress, thinking about ending your life or feeling unsafe? Then contact your doctor or your local emergency services right away.

Online, wherever you are.

I'm based in the Netherlands and work mostly online, with clients all over the world, in English or Dutch. With emotional topics that's often a comfort: you're in your own familiar space and don't have to get on a train or the highway right after an intense session. All you need is a quiet place and headphones.
Prefer to meet in person? That can be arranged. In our intro call we'll figure out together what feels safest and most comfortable for you.

Questions about hypnosis for trauma.

Does hypnosis work for trauma?
Hypnotherapy can help reduce the emotional charge of an old experience and change the patterns that grew out of it. I can't give a guarantee, because everyone is different. We work at your pace and after every session we talk about what you notice. Hypnotherapy is a complement, not a replacement for psychological help.
For severe trauma or a very persistent pattern, I recommend six sessions: the in-depth program. For a less severe experience or one specific pattern, the focused program with three sessions may be enough. We'll talk about what fits you in the intro call.
No. You decide what you share and how much. Sometimes we can work without you telling me all the details. You're fully aware the whole time and you can stop or take a break at any moment. For me, safety always comes before speed.
No, I don't offer EMDR. I work with Ericksonian, conversational hypnotherapy. That's a different approach, centered on conversation and the relaxed, focused state of hypnosis. If you're specifically looking for EMDR, your doctor can help you find a practitioner who offers it.
By working where the pattern lives. Understanding where it comes from is a good start, but often not enough. A pattern is an automatic response that was once useful. In hypnosis you can reach that response and learn a new one that better fits who you are now. That happens step by step.
Grief doesn't have to go away, missing someone is part of love. But do you notice you're stuck in guilt, anger or emptiness, or does a new loss touch an old sorrow? Then hypnotherapy can help give the loss a place. So that alongside the sadness there's room for your own life again.
Low self-confidence is often a learned belief about yourself. In hypnosis we explore where it began, and you connect with resources you already have but can't easily reach. The goal isn't to become someone else. The goal is to trust more in who you already are.
Yes, you can. Hypnotherapy is a complement, not a replacement. Do discuss it with your therapist or care provider so they're aware. If there's more going on medically or psychologically, I'll ask for a referral letter from your doctor. That way we're all working toward the same goal: you feeling better.
It makes sense that it feels a bit daunting. Hypnosis isn't a loss of control: you're fully aware the whole time, you hear everything and you decide what you share. I never go further than you want. The relaxed state of hypnosis can actually make it easier to work with something difficult.

Also helps with.

Hypnosis helps with more than one question. Perhaps you recognize yourself here too:

You don't have to carry it alone.
