Quit smoking with hypnosis.

“I have wanted to get rid of this for years and I cannot do it.” Sound familiar? Then it is not about willpower. Smoking is a habit that lives in your subconscious, and that is where I work.

Your mind wants to quit. Your habit does not.

You know exactly why you want to stop. Still, you reach for a cigarette with your coffee, under stress or with a drink. That link runs deeper than a good intention. That is why patches, apps and promises to yourself often work only for a while.

Smoke free without a daily battle.

In hypnosis we disconnect the moments you smoke from the cigarette. You learn new responses to stress, boredom and habit. So quitting is not a daily struggle, but a choice that lasts.

What changes.

01
Your coffee tastes fine without a cigarette
02
Stressful moments no longer ask for a break outside
03
You think about smoking less and less, instead of more and more

What I can help you with.

Every smoker has their own moments and reasons. These are situations where hypnosis can help you truly quit.

Cigarettes and rolling tobacco

You've smoked for years, maybe half a pack a day, maybe more. You've tried to quit before and you know how the first days feel. In hypnosis, we don't work on forbidding the cigarette, but on the reason you reach for it. Then quitting doesn't have to feel like giving something up.

Vaping and snus

Maybe you switched to a vape or snus to get away from cigarettes, and now you're hooked on something new. The form is different, the habit is the same. A vape is always within reach and nobody even sees snus. That's exactly why it carries on all day without you noticing.

Smoking when stressed

A difficult conversation, an overflowing inbox, an argument at home. You step outside and light one up. The cigarette has become your way to catch your breath for a moment. Together we find another way to take that space, so stress doesn't automatically call for a cigarette.

Social smoking

During the week it goes fine, but with a drink on a patio or at a party, it falls apart. To you, a cigarette just belongs there. In hypnosis, we undo that link, so you can enjoy the evening without it being on your mind the whole time.

After earlier attempts

You quit once for a few weeks or months, and then there was that one moment. Now you wonder if it will ever work. A past relapse says nothing about who you are. We look at what happened back then, so this time you know what to expect.

Worries about your weight

You want to quit, but you're afraid you'll gain weight. Maybe that happened last time too, and it was a reason to start again. We take that concern seriously from the very first session. By looking at what the cigarette gave you, food doesn't automatically have to take its place.

What the cigarette really stands for.

Often it isn't about the cigarette itself. It stands for something else. A break you wouldn't otherwise allow yourself. A moment alone, away from your desk or the busy house. A reward after a long day. Or a way to belong, with your coworkers outside by the door.
When you quit, the cigarette disappears, but that need stays. That's why quitting often feels like a loss. In the sessions, we look together at what smoking gives you. That need is perfectly fine. You learn to meet it in a different way, so you don't have to give anything up. You keep the break, just without the smoke.
That's also why I don't work with scary images of black lungs. You've known those for a long time, and so far they haven't made you quit. Fear only works for a little while. What lasts is a new response that fits who you are and what you need.

No standard quit-smoking script.

I work with Ericksonian, conversational hypnosis. There's no fixed script I play for every smoker. I tailor every session to your moments, your reasons and your history with smoking. I've learned a wide range of techniques and use them with intention, through the connection with you. Every person already has inner resources, like the parts of your day when you naturally don't smoke. Those are unconscious and not always easy to reach. In hypnosis, I help you use them in the moments that are still hard right now.

From quit date to smoke-free.

You choose your quit date together with me. Not just some date far in the future, and not a rushed tomorrow either. A day that fits your life: preferably not in the middle of a tight deadline, or actually at a moment when your rhythm is changing anyway, like after a vacation. We plan the sessions so you're well prepared, with support still there afterward. Because the weeks after your quit date are the weeks where the difference is made.
After quitting, you may get cravings. That's normal. Cravings usually come in waves: they build up, peak and fade again, even if you do nothing. The physical part goes away on its own. The part that's habit lingers longer: the coffee, the car, the moment after dinner. That's what we work on in hypnosis. And when things get tough for a moment, you can reach me in between on WhatsApp or by email.
Many people are afraid they'll gain weight when they quit. That concern is understandable, and sometimes it's even a reason not to start. What often happens is that food takes the cigarette's place: something in your hand, something in your mouth, a reward. Because we look in the sessions at what smoking meant to you, you don't have to fill that gap with snacks. I can't give you a guarantee about your weight, but we do take your concern seriously.
Vaping and snus work a little differently than cigarettes. You can use them anywhere, so there are fewer fixed moments and more small habits throughout the day. That can make it harder to notice when you reach for them. The approach stays the same: we work on the habit and on what it gives you, not on the product. Here too, you choose a quit date and get support in between.

With care, and alongside your doctor.

I'm not a medical professional and I don't cure anything. Hypnosis is a complement to, never a replacement for, your doctor. Before we start, I'll send you a short questionnaire, including questions about any medication you take. Are you using medication or nicotine replacement to quit, or thinking about it? Then talk that through with your doctor. Hypnosis fits well alongside that.
Do you already have issues with your lungs, heart or blood vessels, or is there something else going on medically that goes deeper? Then I'll ask for a referral letter from your doctor, so we can work with care. Your doctor remains your first point of contact for anything to do with your health.

Online, wherever you are.

I'm based in the Netherlands and work mostly online, with people all over the world, in English or Dutch. You join the sessions from home, with headphones on, somewhere you can sit quietly. That's nice if you work and don't have much time, wherever you live.
Prefer to meet in person? That can be arranged. In the intro call, we'll decide together what works best for you.

Questions about quitting smoking with hypnosis.

How do I deal with cravings after quitting?
Cravings come in waves and fade again, even if you don't do anything with them. The physical part passes on its own. The part that's habit, with your coffee or after dinner, is what we tackle in the sessions. You learn what you can do in a moment like that, and in between you can reach me on WhatsApp or by email.
Not necessarily. Many people start eating more because food takes the cigarette's place. In the sessions, we look at what smoking gave you, so you don't have to fill that need with snacks. I don't give guarantees about your weight, but we take your concern into account from the start.
Yes, earlier attempts are no reason not to try again. In fact, they teach us a lot. We look together at the moments when things went wrong back then, and we bring those into the sessions. That way you know this time what might come up, and you're prepared for it.
Quitting smoking often works within the focused program with three sessions, even if you've smoked for a long time. Do you mainly smoke to cope with heavy stress or an old experience? Then the in-depth program may be a better fit. We'll talk about that in the complimentary intro call.
A single session of about 60 minutes is possible. That way you'll find out how hypnosis works for you. For quitting smoking, I still recommend the program with three sessions, because the support after your quit date often makes the difference.
Those are often the hardest moments, because you're more relaxed then and the cigarette feels like it belongs. We talk those situations through in advance, so they don't catch you off guard. In hypnosis, you practice ahead of time what an evening like that feels like without a cigarette. And if you do run into it, you can let me know afterward on WhatsApp or by email what happened.
No. We choose a quit date together that suits you.
Then we look at what happened. In between sessions you can reach me by WhatsApp or email.
Yes. The approach is the same: we work on the habit, not the product.
